Post-Shift Street Interviews 3

Image
The third in a series of street interviews with real people to see how they’ve adapted to the Great Shift! (Photo for internal use only. Not for distribution) How did the Great Shift affect me? Wait, this    isn’t live, is it? My parents don’t know I’m out    this late. No? Alright, I’ll do it if you don’t run my photo along with it. Ever since the Shift put me in my neighbors body, my parents have been watching me like a hawk making sure I “Respect her body” until they find a way to swap back. Like we’re ever going to swap back, hello? The woman in my body’s doing just fine as a teenage boy now, I even saw her bring a girl over to the house a while back. So I figured, you know, If she can do it why can’t I? As far as my parents know, I’m going to support meetings twice a week in the evenings. It’s practically the only alone time I get. What, it’s not like I’m lying to them? I just forgot to mention that these meetings usually start off with a glass of wine in...

From football practice to pilates

“Hey, D, over here!” Marcus beckoned from the car window, getting the attention of his friend as he walked out of the lecture hall. Derrick looked around for the source of the noise, his eyes widening as they settled on the white woman calling him over with the nickname only his best friend used instead of his full name. “You gotta be joking, i dint think you were serious! how long has it been like this? You’ve been terrible at football practice and acting weird the past few weeks at school but i just figured you were freaked out about final exams, not… this! Who is she.. you.. whatever I’m supposed to call you!” Marcus sighed, brushing a strand of blonde hair behind his ear in a habit that was starting to feel more and more natural the longer he did it. “That’s what I was trying to tell you over the phone before you thought it was a prank call and hung up on me! It’s this white lady who lives in some house down the street from me! Remember that electrical storm a few weeks back ...

Humans of the Great Shift 3

Isac (23) “Alright kiddos, I’ll pick you up at 3 ok? be good for the teacher!” “Sorry about that, anyways, where were we? It’s funny, i didn’t exactly expect to be raising a family at 23. I mean, i was fresh out of college, dating a few girls here and there but nothing long-term. I always figured that would be a “later in life” kinda thing. To be fair though, i didn’t exactly plan on the Great Shift putting me in the body of a 40 year old asian woman when i was out at the store getting groceries either. Didn’t exactly help that i have no idea what happened to the woman I swapped into - Maybe she’s in a baby’s body or something, i heard that could happen. Anyways, she had her two kids along with her when it happened and it wasn’t like i could just abandon them. Funnily enough the twins ended up in each others’ bodies so I don’t think they even realized what happened! I ended up taking them to    my new body’s house to see if anyone she knew would pick them up, but when n...

Probably avoidable

“Ok, relax, we can meet up again after you get off work today but it’s not like we’re gonna find anything new! That storm that swapped our bodies was days ago, so if you have any idea how to make it happen again i’m all ears - And yes, actually, i’ve been completely respectful of your body, and your rules. I’ve literally just been watching tv all day waiting for you to get back. You think i want to be stuck as you any longer than i have to?” Ken smiled as Arielle finally hung up the phone, lazily laying back in bed. “Thank god, i thought she’d never get off the phone. Now… Where was I?” He couldn’t blame her though. Maybe it wasn’t the most ethical thing in the world, but he had practically gone down her post-swap dos and don’ts like a checklist Do: Act like me if you have to talk with anyone. Check. He had a few slip ups at first, but as the days passed he was actually starting to get the hang of pretending to be her. Thankfully, Arielle worked from home and had made up an excuse not ...

[story] Following the church’s orders

Jacob was running out of time. He knew he couldn't keep coming up with excuses to get out of his duties. When the storm had hit his small town, swapping the bodies of anyone unlucky enough to be caught outside at the wrong time , he thought the worst of it was over when he found himself in the body of Melissa, the youth pastor's beautiful new wife. That, at least, he thought he could deal with. But then came the decree. "What passed was an act of God," Pastor James had said in church that Sunday, "And the lord has a plan. Play the role given to you, that is the only road to salvation". The Pastor's word was as good as law within Jacob’s family, and so instead of finding himself packing his bags and leaving for college, as he had planned, he had moved in with Adam, the unshifted youth pastor whose wife's body he now inhabited. And Adam had strong views on how a woman should behave, no matter who she had been in the past. A good wife should obey her hu...
