Stopping for a moment to adjust her hijab and touch up her makeup, Yasmin admired her handiwork in the mirror. She smiled, thinking about how long it would have taken her just a few months ago. She had struggled at first, dealing with her new position in life, but looking at herself now she knew that she was becoming the woman she was always meant to be. She reflected back at the events that happened to bring her here. Just a few months ago, she was Aaron, an American Islamic studies major on a student exchange to Cairo University, in Egypt. He was placed with a host family who, although very traditional, was quite kind to him. They encouraged him to build a closer relationship with Islam, including him in their prayer sessions and trips to the mosque. Just as he was settling into this new routine, however, he began dealing with a nagging fever that never seemed to go away.
