Doing college all over again
If he thought about it, he knew he should have been mad at the situation he was in. I mean, who wouldn’t be? His college age neighbor wanted to get a jump start on life and decided the best way to do it was to swap bodies with the 30 year old man next door. Better yet, She had done it during summer break the night before she was due to return back to class, giving Joe a very disorienting morning wake-up . His first few hours post-swap had involved a woman he had pieced together as his mother shouting at him for sleeping through some alarm before throwing some bags in the back of her minivan and shuttling Joe down to the airport for an 8am flight, barely letting him get a word in edgewise as she worried to herself about how close they were to missing Kendra’s flight back to campus.
Over the next 4 hours, Joe had nothing else to do but piece together his new identity through his body’s phone, thankfully unlocking with face ID. His first good look at his face through the selfie camera let him at least place a face to his new name: He recognized the girl looking back at him as someone he’d seen a few times at his apartment complex, although a little worse for wear from the early morning wakeup. After poring through hundreds of texts with other teenage girls and a few months worth of pictures, he was starting to get a pretty good idea of his new situation.
Based on a few text conversations and the documents he found in his bags, he was now Kendra Douglas, age 19, one year into a computer science degree she wasn’t doing especially well in, and apparently desperate enough to get away from her overbearing parents to buy some kind of spell to swap bodies with the victim of her choice, which, just his luck, happened to be him.
His day only got better upon landing when he tried calling his old number to find out that not only did she have him blocked, she had already changed his passwords on any accounts he would have found useful. Having to choose between checking into Kendra’s new college dorm and trying to convince someone that the teenage girl they were talking to was actually a 30 year old white guy from some town halfway across the country, Joe decided to take the easier of the two options: Getting sent to a psych ward didn’t exactly sound like a step towards getting his old body back.
4 months later, Joe was nervously waiting for the bus to the airport for his flight back “home” for the winter holidays. Not because he was ready to see his old body again, but exactly the opposite: Part of him was desperately hoping that Kendra had taken his body and moved far away with it, leaving him as the new Kendra forever. As it turned out, college is a lot easier when you’ve already done it all before, leaving Joe the free time to focus on a lot of “extracurriculars” which he found no shortage of as a smart, hot, teenage girl on campus. Once he had crossed the learning curve of dealing with his new body’s hair, clothes, makeup, and feminine needs, (featuring a lot of early wakeups to give him the hours he needed to get ready before class) not to mention learning to copy the mannerisms of other girls his age, Joe was starting to realize exactly how much he had missed out on sports, clubs, and the abundance of opportunities for casual sex his first time around college almost 10 years ago. As his mind started to drift to whether or not he’d have time for a quick hookup with that guy from the swim team he’d been seeing the past few weeks, Joe was starting to realize that this was the best choice he possibly could have made.
