“Dad! Kate is here!” Sam shouted, opening the door and walking away before Charlie even had a chance to say a word to his son. Charlie stopped in his tracks. He had rushed over to his house without even thinking about what he was going to say, but as he looked down the hall, whatever words he did have froze in the back of his throat.
